Special Needs Case Study Analysis

Case Study

1. Nathan displays the classic symptoms of ADHD (Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity disorder).

2. Nathan received several accommodations in the past such as, special resources in the resource room. He also was prescribed a RX by a doctor.

3. Some stratigies I would like to suggest Nathan try to help his learning disability are...
  • Breaking down his assignments into smaller components.
  • Teach him how to "self-talk" through a performance.
  • Incoportate hands on activities.
  • Place him in a quite part of the room so that he can avoid distractions.
  • Create a log to record and monitor assignments he has done.
  • Use flash cards to develop skills and confidence.

4. Studies say that there are approximately 2 million children in the United States with some form of ADHD. So in a standard class of about 30 students I am very likely to have at least one student with similar learning disabilities as Nathan. You can find this information here.

  1. The question for #1 asks you to identify the specific symptoms.

Why would you recommend those strategies for Nathan?
